Jade Ambassador, Kelly Ko still remembers the day she became an E. Excel Distributor—October 31, 2000. She was so excited, ready to go out and shout E. Excel and Nutritional Immunology to the world that she could hardly contain herself. “It was definitely a high moment for me. Everything seemed to make sense,” she says. “Joining E. Excel was the best decision I’ve ever made in my life.”
But when Kelly started to actually build her business, reality sank in. “Suddenly, I realized that doing the work was not the same as talking about it,” she muses. “I was prepared to face anything that came my way except the skeptics and their criticisms. Those were some of the challenges I failed to expect.” In fact, Kelly was so discouraged at one point that she almost quit. She was ready to give up on her passion, but after much thought, she knew giving up was the easy way out.
“I took a step back and started to reevaluate my business strategy. Maybe there was something that I wasn’t doing right,” she says. “And I thought to myself, ‘For every person who joins E. Excel, there is one less sick person in the world,’ and that’s a wonderful thing. I thought of my improved health and how grateful I was for my friend who’d introduced me to E. Excel.” That caused Kelly to consult her Uplines, Diamond Ambassador, Dr. Yaping Guo; Jade Ambassadors Doris Lee and Pearl Master, Phyllis Yang for advice.
“They told me what I was feeling—the disappointment—was normal,” Kelly continues. “They told me to learn from my mistakes, for this was a journey.” From her Uplines, Kelly learned one important lesson that she is reminded of every day. True success is 1% talent and 99% work. Success does not come immediately. It is not made out of only talk and no action; it depends on careful planning and execution, not chance.
“If you want to be successful,” Kelly says, “you must commit yourself to E. Excel. You must immerse yourself entirely and start doing the business without being hesitant about it. The truth is, people who have one leg in too many things tend to fail and give up. I know this because I am speaking from experience.”
Kelly’s formula for success is to walk the talk—building relationships, proper education and training, and genuine care for the people around her. She plans everything before its execution, and through this strategy she is able to overcome business challenges.
“First, be friends with people around you,” she speaks with sheer optimism. “Friends care about each other first and foremost. It is more effective to introduce E. Excel to your friends than to your acquaintances because friends will always listen.” Kelly has the habit of sharing her personal testimonies of E. Excel products with her friends, and if they are sick, she would give them a few of the products to take. “Take this,” she’d say, “it’s good for you. It helped me overcome my health problem, and I’m confident it will do the same for you.” Oftentimes, she would even share stories of other people who have become healthier after consuming E. Excel products.
“However, people don’t always want to hear us talk,” she asserts. “They want to see for themselves how effective the products are, and giving the products away as gifts is my form of investment. If someone has a cold, I’ll give them Millennium® and Noco®, and believe me, it works. When people experience the products themselves, they are more likely to join E. Excel.”
When it comes to sponsoring, Kelly says, the work does not end when the person becomes a Distributor. On the contrary, according to Kelly, the exacting work of training, educating and retention begins as soon as her new Distributor joins E. Excel. “Too many people give up because there are no follow up efforts,” she adds. “You have responsibility when you bring someone into the E. Excel family.”
To Kelly, her new Downlines are like babies; they need constant care, education and training. “Many new Distributors give up because they don’t understand the difference between E. Excel and other businesses,” Kelly says, “and this is where I come in as a leader—to help them understand the difference and show them how to approach people, hold Opportunity Meetings, plan home parties, answer questions and ultimately overcome their own challenges.”
As a leader, Kelly does not believe in just talking about training and the importance of education. She actually does it. “This business requires attention and commitment. We need to teach our Downlines to be outstanding leaders right away,” she says. “Otherwise, they will only stay on for another two to three months before quitting.” Apart from the basic training, Kelly is adamant about E. Excel’s internet tools. In fact, part of her training includes a section on how to use the Distributor Center on E. Excel’s official website, www.eexcel.net. With these tools, Kelly is confident that her Downlines can be well-rounded business people, who can multi-task and work to their advantage. Kelly often remembers her own challenges and low periods, and she is committed to helping her Downlines work through these periods. It is worth the effort!
“True success,” Kelly continues, “is when you make everyone under you a leader. As leaders, we should help our Downlines see a glimpse of a bright future by showing them how our unique compensation plan works and how they can reap its benefits.” Kelly also rewards her Downlines for working hard. “I reward my outstanding Downlines with a trip or vacation, in which they can relax and have a great time.” However, Kelly also makes it a point to hold training sessions during those trips. That way, her Distributors can learn more about E. Excel while having fun.
To be successful, Kelly concludes, one must be positive and be around positive people. “Success is contagious, but so is failure. If you want to succeed, associate more with successful people and you will find yourself more confident and optimistic,” Kelly says. “Successful people walk the talk.”
