EDITOR: We are excited to announce that since this article was published, Kim Khoo and Pang Boon Wah have achieved the rank of E. Excel Ambassador!
Imagine being doused with a bucket of cold water when you are trying to share something important with your trusted friends. That was exactly how Diamond Master, Siew Kim Khoo, felt every time she faced rejection in the middle of speaking with a prospective distributor. True, rejection may be a normal process in a business like E. Excel, but when it happens repeatedly over a period of time, rejection can be just plain discouraging and disheartening. But somehow, no matter how many times she felt like she’d been drenched with cold water, Kim did the right thing—persevere, persevere, persevere! Facing these challenges was not easy, but with time, she was able to overcome these obstacles and the fear of rejection. Now, everyday of her life, Kim is making a difference in her own life and the lives of others. “I can still remember coming home with my husband at about two in the morning looking all sour and grouchy,” Kim laughs. “It seems funny now, but at the time, it was hard work.” Kim and her husband, Pang Boon Wah, would work all day trying to make appointments and recruit everyone they knew only to feel disappointment at the end of the day. People would literally avoid them. “It actually felt like people were running away from us,” Kim says, a hint of humor in her voice. From her appearance, her jovial personality and the humility in her tone, no one would have imagined the challenges Kim had to go through to be what she is today—a successful businesswoman, mother, wife and E. Excel Diamond Master.
“It’s all about the attitude,” Kim emphasizes. “Yes, there were hard times, and it was easy to forget about positive things when I was feeling discouraged. But luckily I was smart enough to consult with my Upline, Jade Ambassador, Dr. Yu-Sheng Chen, who gave me some very priceless advice.” When Kim asked Yu-Sheng for support, he provided her with encouragement and helped her look at the positive side of things, which eventually lifted her morale. “If it was not for him, I would still be sulking in a corner today,” Kim continues. “He told me to persevere. He taught me to follow through on the path I have chosen and helped me recognize the reasons why I chose to be an E. Excel Distributor in the first place.”
Kim chose E. Excel because of Nutritional Immunology and E. Excel’s profitable compensation plan—and to be successful in the business, she found that what she really needed to do was to emulate the uniqueness of E. Excel to the people around her. It was all about being able to make a difference.
As a little girl, Kim’s father taught her a Chinese idiom: “Being slow is not the problem, but being stagnant is; we should not fear how far the journey will take us, but rather, which journey we should take.” Kim never fails to smile whenever she thinks of her father’s words. “He taught me a valuable lesson, which Yu-Sheng reiterated,” Kim says, “and that is to stick with whatever we choose to the end.”
“I remember when I was first introduced to E. Excel,” Kim reminisced. “It was 1996 and Dr. Jau-Fei Chen was in Penang, Malaysia, at a conference. I attended the event, was enlightened by her lecture and came home with over a thousand dollars worth of products. On top of that, I was completely convinced that E. Excel was my future. I could take advantage of the E. Excel opportunity and make a living selling E. Excel products and teaching people about Nutritional Immunology. It was a feeling of utter euphoria.” That specific moment became Kim’s positive reinforcement whenever she needs a morale boost during challenging times.
With only a high school education, Kim surpassed her own expectations when she became a full-time E. Excel Distributor in 2004, and in the years since then, she has accomplished more than she could ever have dreamed of. “Through E. Excel, I am able to make something extraordinary out of myself, and it is such a rewarding feeling,” Kim says. “And I believe I am making a difference everyday.”
As a leader, Kim believes it is her responsibility to pass down what she has learned on her journey. Knowledge is everything to Kim. It is something money cannot buy, and that’s why the knowledge of Nutritional Immunology and everything she has learned so far as an E. Excel Distributor is priceless. “In my training sessions,” Kim says, “I teach everything I learned from my Uplines and my experiences. I teach about perseverance—how completing a journey is more important than embarking on one, and how our decision to join E. Excel is one that we need to follow through everyday. With this attitude, we can overcome anything that comes our way.”
“Challenges help us grow stronger, and we should constantly learn from them.” For example, whenever she is interrupted by dissenters in a conversation about E. Excel and its products, Kim would just stop and listen. The key in these situations, according to Kim, is patience. “Most people who don’t know about E. Excel products are naturally skeptical,” Kim explains, “but once we explain to them that E. Excel products are not medicine but just wholesome food, people tend to be more relaxed and open to what we have to share.”
One common question that Kim finds herself answering is, if E. Excel products are so good, why not advertise it? Whenever she faces this question, Kim would smile confidently and explain that the way she advertises is to let people try the products. “Nutritional Immunology is never going to change,” she says. “It has been the same for ages; a product never changes in its essence, and that’s why the best introduction to any E. Excel product is to actually use it. Words are not enough to describe the power of Nutritional Immunology and E. Excel products.”
“As a Distributor and a leader,” Kim continues, “I need to constantly encourage, follow up and be a good example to my Distributors. This requires effort and determination.” Kim sees E. Excel as very different from other health food or direct marketing businesses. While some basic principles and regulations are similar, E. Excel provides unsurpassed product quality, an outstanding compensation plan, supportive Uplines and a solid, promising future. E. Excel has been doing this for more than 20 years and will be here for the next 20 years.
Today, Kim is a successful woman, who is filled with the happiness of a good life. Through E. Excel, she is able to send her children to college and do everything she dreamed of doing. But even so, Kim recognizes she wouldn’t be this successful if not because of the consistent support of Dr. Yu-Sheng Chen, all of her Distributors and her husband, Pang Boon Wah, who has been her most avid supporter since day one.
“I can now say that I have survived every bucket of cold water dumped in my way and made something extraordinary out of my life,” Kim beams, “for ultimately, I’m not just in a business of making money, but one that makes an absolute difference in everything I do, for which I am eternally thankful. E. Excel is a choice I will never regret!”
